About the role:

Are you passionate about strategic management? Opotiki District Council is seeking a Strategy and Policy Manager to join our Strategy and Development Group. You will lead a team who is focussed on sustainable improvement across the planning and delivery of services. As part of our team, your expertise will help to ensure the economic, social, environmental and cultural development and growth of the district. 

 

Responsibilities: 

As Strategy and Policy Manager, you will oversee strategy and policy development for Council. You will lead the development and delivery of the strategic direction of Council through the implementation and monitoring of the Council Long Term Plan and other special plans/projects. 

 You will be responsible for:

  • Holding positive key relationships with stakeholders and neighbouring Councils to strategically and, where appropriate, collaboratively ensure success.
  • Lead non-financial aspects of the Long-Term Plan and Annual Process.
  • Seeking out opportunities to attract alternative funding
  • Contribute to the design and development of Council strategic plans to ensure economic, social, environmental and cultural development and growth.
  • Leading and implementing projects as required. Ensure projects comply with relevant legislation.
  • Lead policy advice and guidance processes to Council to support informed decision making
  • Represent Council at appropriate events, meetings and conferences 
  • Positively and proactively leading the Strategy and Policy team including providing ongoing mentoring and evaluation processes 
 

Ideally you will have: 

  • Relevant tertiary qualification, e.g. public policy, planning, commerce or related field 
  • At least 3 years’ experience in strategy and policy development 
  • Line management experience
  • Proven experience in the preparation of advice and development of robust and concise reports for decision makers
  • Good overall knowledge of relevant local government legislation 
  • Evidence of working collaboratively with a range of people and organisations in the delivery of projects or outcomes
  • High level of computer literacy using Microsoft Office
  • Proven experience managing projects.
