Are you a qualified Management Accountant looking to make a difference? Join our Finance Team, dedicated to managing Carterton District Council’s financial landscape and supporting strategic objectives for our community. Please note that this role is based in Carterton, not Wellington!

About the role

As a Management Accountant, you will provide high-quality financial analysis, reporting, and insights to inform decision-making across the council. Your expertise will lead forecasting, analytical reporting, and business partnering activities, contributing significantly to our annual and long-term planning.

Key responsibilities:

• Analyse and report on asset and capital program performance

   

   

• Maintain asset registers and ensure alignment with financial standards

   

   

• Prepare financial forecasts and scenario models to guide decision-making

   

   

• Manage insurance policies and liaise with insurers and brokers

   

   

• Support the development of the Annual and Long-Term Plans

   

   

• Provide timely financial insights to internal stakeholders and enhance financial literacy across the Council

   

   

• Collaborate with various departments to support service delivery.

   

   

Key skills and qualifications:

• CMA or CA qualified with a Bachelor’s degree in finance, commerce, or accounting

   

   

• Experience in a similar role, local government experience not essential

   

   

• Advanced Excel skills and proficiency in financial systems (Power-BI experience is a plus)

   

   

• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail

   

   

• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build productive relationships

   

   

• Exposure and working knowledge of the Magiq software platform would be beneficial.
