Financial Accountant

Te Wero – The Challenge
As a Financial Accountant, you’ll play a key role in ensuring the financial integrity of the Far North District Council. This is a dynamic position where accuracy, attention to detail, and a commitment to excellence are essential. You’ll be responsible for:
- Preparing annual report working papers, financial statements, and note disclosures through to final audit completion.
- Reconciling Balance Sheet and other accounts.
- Preparing regular financial and statistical returns.
- Managing quarterly and end-of-year rate payments to Northland Regional Council.
- Oversight of Statement of Service Performance
measures.
You’ll also
contribute to practical financial reporting, and compliance, while supporting
managers and staff with timely, accurate information.
I ā koe - About You
- We need someone who brings both technical expertise and a collaborative mindset. Ideally, you have:
- A relevant business qualification (minimum Accounting Technician membership of CAANZ) or at least 3 years’ experience in a financial accounting role.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and large financial management systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal.
- Confidence, initiative, and the ability to work independently.
- A team-focused attitude and enthusiasm for delivering outstanding customer service.
A progressive mindset with a passion for continual improvement.

- The salary for this position is Grade 15 within Council's salary structure (Band: $81,304 to $95,652 pro rata per annum) dependent on qualifications and experience, plus Kiwi Saver.
