Financial Accountant

As a Financial Accountant, you’ll play a key role in ensuring the financial integrity of the Far North District Council. This is a dynamic position where accuracy, attention to detail, and a commitment to excellence are essential. You’ll be responsible for:

• Preparing annual report working papers, financial statements, and note disclosures through to final audit completion.
• Reconciling Balance Sheet and other accounts.
• Preparing regular financial and statistical returns.
• Managing quarterly and end-of-year rate payments to Northland Regional Council.
• Oversight of Statement of Service Performance measures.
  

You’ll also contribute to practical financial reporting, and compliance, while supporting managers and staff with timely, accurate information.

• We need someone who brings both technical expertise and a collaborative mindset. Ideally, you have:
• A relevant business qualification (minimum Accounting Technician membership of CAANZ) or at least 3 years’ experience in a financial accounting role.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and large financial management systems.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal.
• Confidence, initiative, and the ability to work independently.
• A team-focused attitude and enthusiasm for delivering outstanding customer service.
