If you enjoy combining environmental compliance, infrastructure management, reporting and continuous improvement, this role offers the chance to make a practical contribution to the future of our district.

About the role

Reporting to the Infrastructure Strategy and Asset Management Team Leader, you'll take ownership of compliance monitoring and reporting activities across a range of Council assets and operations. This includes environmental compliance, monitoring programmes, incident response, regulatory reporting, and consent renewal support across key asset areas, including stormwater, closed landfills, transport, property, facilities and buildings.

You will:

  • Lead compliance monitoring programmes and coordinate audits, inspections and site investigations.
  • Maintain consent condition registers and compliance records.
  • Prepare regulatory reports and liaise with regulators, including Waikato Regional Council.
  • Coordinate environmental monitoring, sampling programmes and performance reporting.
  • Investigate environmental incidents and ensure regulatory notifications are completed.
  • Identify emerging compliance risks and provide practical recommendations to management.
  • Work closely with asset managers, engineers, operational teams, consultants and contractors to achieve positive compliance outcomes.

What we're looking for

We're keen to hear from professionals with experience in environmental compliance, resource consents, infrastructure operations, asset management, regulatory monitoring, environmental science, engineering, or a related field.

You'll bring:

  • At least 3 years' relevant industry experience.
  • Knowledge of environmental compliance and regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience interpreting legislation, consent conditions, and compliance obligations.
  • Strong analytical skills and confidence working with monitoring data and reporting.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
  • The ability to identify risks, solve problems, and drive corrective actions through to completion.
  • A relevant qualification in engineering, science, planning, environmental management, or a similar discipline.

Experience working with stormwater systems, landfill operations, environmental monitoring programmes, local government, or resource management processes will be highly regarded.

Why join us?

At Matamata-Piako District Council, you'll join a team that genuinely values collaboration, continuous improvement, professional development, and making a meaningful contribution to the community. Our values are simple:
