Water Services Operations Engineer
Are you an experienced three waters professional ready to help deliver safe, reliable, and compliant water services to our community? We’re looking for a Water Services Operations Engineer to support management of our water supply, wastewater, and stormwater activities.
About the Role
Reporting to the Water Services Manager, you will key to the operational oversight of water supply, wastewater, and stormwater services, ensuring effective administration and quality service delivery of our Waters Operations and Maintenance contract.
Providing technical leadership for operational and compliance functions, the role ensures services meet legislative and regulatory requirements, including those set by Taumata Arowai, the Drinking Water Quality Assurance Rules, resource consents, and wider obligations under the Water Services Act 2021 and Resource Management Act 1991.
Key Responsibilities
- Support operational management of water supply, wastewater, and stormwater services
- Work closely with Field Representatives to oversee contractor performance and service delivery
- Provide professional technical advice
- Lead and manage technical and operational investigations
- Monitor, address, and report on compliance requirements, including drinking water standards, resource consents, and regulatory reporting
- Support customer and stakeholder relationship management
- Contribute to long-term planning, asset management planning, and activity reporting (including LTP and Annual Report inputs)
You will bring:
- A relevant engineering qualification (Civil, Process, Environmental, or similar)
- Experience in three waters operations, infrastructure, or contract management
- Strong knowledge of NZ drinking water services compliance frameworks
- Understanding of regulatory engagement with Taumata Arowai and consent compliance under the Resource Management Act
- Experience working collaboratively with contractors and field teams
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
