The organisation

The Timaru District Council aims to enable democratic local decision-making and action by, and on behalf of communities, to promote the social, economic, environmental, and cultural well-being of its communities in the present and for the future. With around 400 staff, there are a diverse range of roles from front facing community to support and technical specialists.

The role/person

We're on the lookout for a Waste Contract Manager who will bring an x-factor to lead our new long term waste contract that includes collection, landfill operations and waste minimisation initiatives that will provide sustainable solutions.

This is a new role that will lead a small team responsible for managing our new long term $80 million solid waste management contract and our own landfill assets.

The successful applicant will be responsible for the management and day to day oversight of the Solid Waste Contract and Council owned waste assets. You will be working closely with the contractor to ensure a high level of service is delivered to our community, undertaking quality control assessments.

This position will see you implement capital works projects and improvements to the Timaru District waste minimisation and activity management plans that promote our sustainability strategy.

Ideally, you will have a relevant qualification with a focus on either contract management or project management. Bonus points if you have experience in dealing with a wide range of stakeholders and sound knowledge of waste minimisation concepts.
