The opportunity - Te āheinga
This is a rare opportunity to step into the role of TSB Showplace and Bowl of Brooklands Lead and provide strategic and operational leadership for the management and growth of Taranaki's most iconic and highly regarded performance venues.
Reporting to the Manager Venues and Events, this permanent, full-time role has significant influence across venue operations, programming, events and customer experience.
You'll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of these venues - balancing community access and affordability with sustainable occupancy and commercial performance.
Leading a high-performing team, you'll ensure the safe, compliant and professional delivery of venue and event activity while driving audience development, growing patronage and achieving agreed KPIs.
This role is ideal for a strategic, people-focused leader who thrives in a dynamic events environment and is passionate about creating outstanding experiences for artists, audiences, hirers and the wider Taranaki community.
Key responsibilities - Ngā haepapa matua
- Lead and develop venue teams to deliver safe, professional venue hire and Council-led events to agreed service standards
- Oversee day-to-day venue operations, asset presentation and maintenance, liaising with Property, Facilities and contractors
- Programme and manage annual bookings and content schedules to achieve KPIs for revenue, utilisation, patronage and audience growth
- Drive exceptional patron and hirer experiences, protecting and enhancing venue brands and stakeholder relationships
- Deliver high-quality major events at the Bowl of Brooklands, proactively managing community, neighbour and regulatory impacts
- Provide visible leadership in health, safety, risk and regulatory compliance, including event safety planning and incident management
- Implement and contribute to the venues business plan, monitoring performance and driving continuous improvement
- Scope, plan and deliver Bowl events in collaboration with Event Attraction and Business Development, ensuring full operational readiness
- Develop and champion venue policies, procedures and operational standards, ensuring consistent application
- Manage venue service and supply contracts and shared contractors, ensuring performance, compliance and value for money
Essential skills and experience - Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako
- A relevant tertiary qualification in Events, Venue Management, Performing Arts, Business Management or a related field, or 5-10 years' experience in Performing Arts Venue, Programming or Operations Management including 4 years' experience in leading teams
- Demonstrated operational experience in managing performance venues
- Proven experience in venue operations, asset-aware management practices, and ensuring compliance with health and safety, risk, and legislative requirements in a public-facing environment
- Experience in programming, presenting, or working with touring and producing partners
- Proven ability to balance community outcomes with sustainable occupancy and financial stewardship
- Strong people leadership capability across operational and customer-facing teams
- Strong communication, relationship management, and stakeholder engagement skills

You can expect to start in this permanent, full-time role with a salary of between $104,170 - $112,271.
