Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

We're looking for a skilled Team Leader Security & Infrastructure to step into this role on a fixed-term basis until March 2027, while the current Team Leader is seconded into a project opportunity.

As our Team Leader, you'll provide leadership to a skilled team of Systems Engineers, ensuring our IT environment is secure, reliable, and fit for the future. This role covers everything from developing and implementing security strategies to overseeing the design, delivery, and operation of Council's core infrastructure.

You'll be hands-on in leading projects, managing risks, and keeping pace with evolving security threats, while also building strong vendor partnerships and ensuring compliance with industry standards and legislation. Just as importantly, you'll mentor and support your team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture.

What you'll do

  • Lead and develop a team of security and infrastructure specialists.
  • Define and deliver security and infrastructure strategies, projects, and policies.
  • Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of Council's network, server, and desktop infrastructure.
  • Monitor and respond to security incidents, breaches, and risks, ensuring strong response plans are in place.
  • Manage vendor relationships and procurement of security and infrastructure solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with security standards, privacy legislation, and best practice frameworks.

You'll be a technically skilled and people-focused leader who thrives on solving problems, managing risks, and enabling secure, reliable digital services. You'll combine deep infrastructure and security expertise with the ability to lead, communicate, and make sound decisions under pressure.

What you'll bring

  • A degree or diploma in Computer Science, IT, or related field.
  • Professional certifications in security and infrastructure (e.g., VMware, Cisco, Fortigate, Azure, CISSP, CISM).
  • Proven experience in digital security and infrastructure management, including leadership roles.
  • Knowledge of security principles, network architecture, cloud technologies, and security tools.
  • Strong understanding of compliance frameworks and legislation (e.g., Privacy Act 2020, ISO 27001).
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • A collaborative, proactive approach with a commitment to continuous improvement.
