Team Leader Resource Consents

About the role:

Selwyn is growing and developing at a rapid pace; with a large rural area spanning the high country to the plains, as well as fast urban growth, this role offers a huge variety of planning work covering a range of issues.

Due to this growth, we are creating a third Resource Consents Team and we are seeking a Team Leader to join our Planning Leadership team! As a member of the leadership team, you will help ensure the Resource Consents function is delivered in an effective, efficient, timely manner while upholding best practise. Additionally, maintaining a high-quality standard of customer service with our communities is a key focus.

Whether you are building on past leadership experience or bringing fresh energy to your first leadership role, we'll support you with the tools, training, and guidance you need to thrive.

About you:

You will guide and support your team through effective coaching and mentoring, helping each person grow and succeed. Create and foster a positive, inclusive environment where everyone feels empowered to bring their best selves to work.

You will pilot and assist the team to achieve shared goals, working within a values-driven framework that supports collaboration, trust, and continuous improvement.

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:

  • Strong people leadership skills are vital to ensure the team is supported to provide high quality planning analysis and the day-to-day workload is effectively managed among the team.
  • Collaboration and building positive relationships with team members, peers, internal and external stakeholders will be crucial to the success of this role.
  • Strong background in resource consent planning, with at least five years of experience in a senior planning role.
  • Expertise in decision making on resource consent applications (within delegations) and managing any Environment Court appeals.
