Team Leader Inspections
We’re looking for a Team Leader – Building Inspections who’s not only technically strong, but ready to guide others, and committed to building safe, sustainable places for our region to thrive.
Mō te tūranga | About the position
As our Team Leader Inspections, you’ll take the helm of our Building Inspections team a group dedicated to upholding the integrity, safety, and quality of construction across Tairāwhiti. You’ll ensure the mahi we do aligns with the Building Act 2004 and the standards that keep our communities safe, while also shaping how we deliver on our role as a Building Consent Authority.
Your leadership will inspire excellence, foster collaboration, and bring our values to life. You’ll be the steady hand that ensures technical accuracy and the encouraging voice that helps your people grow, learn, and lead with confidence.
Ngā Mahi ngā Takohanga Matua rānei | Duties include:
- Provide technical direction and oversight across inspections
- Support your team’s professional development and progression
- Lead performance conversations, build engagement, and champion teamwork
- Champion our shift toward digital inspection systems
- Build strong relationships with builders, designers, and community partners
Ngā Pūkenga me Ngā Wheako e Hiahia ana | Skills and experience required:
- A Level 6 qualification in a building construction-related field (as required by the Building Act)
- 6–8 years’ experience in building control or a related regulatory role
- Proven leadership or mentoring experience — you know how to bring out the best in others
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and customer service skills
- A genuine commitment to safety, inclusion, and collaboration
- A current full driver’s licence
You’re an experienced Building Control Officer or technical professional who knows the ins and outs of the Building Act — but you’re equally passionate about people. You lead with heart, hold high standards, and bring a calm, practical approach to challenges.
