Team Leader, Governance
Napier City Council is determined to see Napier thrive and prosper right across its community. To do this requires robust democratic process, transparent governance, and effective flows of information. This crucial role supports this at all levels of the organisation.
We are looking for a team leader, experienced in the nuances of local governance. You will take responsibility and lead the team who are already delivering high quality advice and support to the elected members, council staff and the broader community. Meeting management, responding to information requests (LGOIMA’s), ensuring information flows, and advising key stakeholders on all things related to Local Government legislation spans the focus of your and your team’s work responsibilities. You run the schedules and manage processes for all Council and committee meetings. And you will work closely with the Senior Leadership Team, so this is a high touch role, heavy in the detail – but rewarding in the sense that you will provide a real backbone of governance support and guidance.
It is essential you have worked in local government to win this role. We need your expertise from either local or regional council environments. Tertiary qualified, you will need to be fully conversant with the local government statutory requirements. By nature, you like to lead a team; developing, supporting, and motivating them, and helping them filter and respond to the many queries that come their way. Your highly developed communication skills, professional approach, resilience, and confidence when dealing with many people from different backgrounds (at times about sensitive topics) will shine through.
Napier has many initiatives for 2021 and beyond. This is a great opportunity to step into a highly regarded and critical role within Council by joining this positive and forward thinking organisation. If you have the local government experience and you are ready for a move into a challenging role here in sunny Hawkes Bay, then please apply, or feel free to phone the team at Populous People to learn more on 06 875 8446.
