Strategy & Policy Assistant
In partnership with our community, Environment Southland (Southland Regional Council) is responsible for the sustainable management of Southland's natural resources - our land, our water, our air and our coast. As a Regional Council we operate across a large geographical region which extends from Stewart Island to Fiordland.
Working at Environment Southland requires all of our staff to uphold the council's Te Tiriti o Waitangi responsibilities as part of their day-to-day role. This might be through the appropriate delivery of functions through various legislation where Te Tiriti o Waitangi or partnering with mana whenua is required or upholding the commitments that our elected councillors have made to Ngāi Tahu ki Murihiku through the Charter of Understanding.
Due to a promotion, we are looking for an experienced Strategy and Policy Assistant to join our Policy team. Emphasis is on:
- Providing support for Strategy and Policy team projects, carrying out research, writing, editing and reviewing documents.
- Provide general administrative support to the team to enable the development of robust solutions for policy issues and to support regional planning submission, hearing and decision processes
Knowledge/Experience
- Appropriate tertiary qualification such as a Certificate in Business Administration and Computing (level 5) or equivalent would be desirable
- Minimum 4 years' experience working with a group of people in a similar role
- Sound computer skills with competence using the Microsoft Office Suite and database management
- Experience with, or willingness to learn, regional council specific software programmes
- A general knowledge of the Resource Management Act 1991
- Highly accurate and keen eye for detail.
- Full current driver's license

An initial offer of remuneration will be made within the range of $71,370. - $75,355.
