Lead our strategic direction!
We’re on a journey to take our district from good to great and having a lot of fun along the way. This is Council, but not as you know it – we’re shaking things up, in the midst of a transformation journey driven by passion, pride and genuine aroha for our community.
Our Council is based in Levin, in the heart of the Horowhenua District. The Horowhenua is a rich and diverse District. Stretching from the Tararua Ranges to the Tasman Sea, we have mountains, rivers, lakes, and beaches on our doorstep. We have a range of communities and easy access to the bigger cities of Palmerston North and Wellington. Horowhenua is growing fast, and this is expected to continue for the next 20 years. There are a number of significant projects that we need to deliver to support and facilitate this growth. We’re looking for a future focused and innovative Strategic Planner to join our dynamic, hardworking and community focused team.
Here we have an opportunity that provides a platform for you to contribute to the strategic planning direction of Council. You will also provide policy analysis and resource management advice to support the organisation.
You’ll be part of a tight-knit team, led by Tiffany Gower, who have a good range of experience and who are focused on delivering the best outcomes for our community during a time of massive change. Your role is multi-faceted, you will be responsible for assisting with the strategic planning direction of our Council through input into key strategic projects and plans including the Long Term Plan and Annual Plan.
Your days will be split between research, providing planning advice, as well as being out in the community, actively engaging and building relationships with iwi and community stakeholders, and growing new (and investing in existing) relationships. We pretty much work to normal business hours, but from time to time, you may be needed to attend events, including either community or council related meetings.
You’re a seasoned professional who can effectively juggle many priorities; managing your own goals, tasks, and deliverables with support and guidance from our team as/if required. You’re attention to detail, forward planning, organisational and communication skills are top notch.
Our roadmap ahead is without doubt substantial, and there will be times where there will be increased pressure. Your ability to navigate that workflow and meet deadlines will be one of the keys to your success. Your ability to also build and secure trusting relationships with our stakeholders, internally and externally, in relation to important and sensitive matters will be crucial. This is your time to shine and join our family and significantly contribute to the strategic framework and future direction of our Council!
So, what’s in it for you?
Along with continuous development and opportunities for future growth, you will enjoy a competitive salary and stable role within a thriving Council where the culture is great, innovation is ongoing, and your work has a genuine impact on the positive growth of the community. We also want you to be able to successfully balance both work and home life – we get it! Modern life is busy enough, right? So, we offer a flexible work program that we think will be attractive to you!
Outside of work, you’ll enjoy affordable living, easy commutes, and a great lifestyle with an abundance of unspoiled nature right on your doorstep to explore.
