Senior Roading Engineer – Storm Damage Recovery

Are you an experienced roading professional ready to lead recovery works that make a real difference to communities?

We are seeking a Senior Roading Engineer to take a lead role in managing and delivering storm damage recovery projects across our transport network. This is a critical position responsible for restoring essential infrastructure, strengthening network resilience, and ensuring safe and reliable transport connections for our district.

About the Role

As part of the Roading Team, the role will work closely with Council recovery staff, as well as key contractors, agencies and community stakeholders.

You will lead the planning, design coordination, procurement, and delivery of storm recovery works across our local roads network. You will oversee budgets, ensure compliance, and provide technical leadership to internal teams and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end delivery of storm damage recovery projects (assessment through to completion)
  • Manage emergency works, permanent reinstatement, and resilience upgrades
  • Oversee procurement and contract management in line with local government requirements
  • Monitor project budgets, funding claims, and reporting obligations
  • Provide technical guidance on pavement design, drainage systems, slope stabilisation, and asset renewal
  • Liaise with senior management, community stakeholders, contractors, and regulatory authorities
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety, environmental, and quality standards
  • Contribute to long-term asset management and resilience planning
  • Transport planning & Safety – Assess current transportation systems and develop strategies to improve them, ensuring safe and efficient movement for individuals and goods

About You

  • A degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent qualification)
  • Extensive experience in roading/infrastructure delivery, ideally within local government
  • Proven experience managing storm response and recovery works
  • Strong contract management and procurement expertise
  • Sound knowledge of transport asset management systems
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
  • The ability to work effectively under pressure in emergency response situations
