Senior Rating Officer - Māori Land

ABOUT THE ROLE – NGĀ ĀHUATANGA O TE TŪRANGA

As our Senior Rating Officer and Māori Land you’ll help landowners navigate the rating system, ensuring compliance, and championing fair, effective rating policies. This isn’t just about numbers—it’s about people and community.

The role involves:

  • Rates administration & reporting – manage rating assessments, ensure compliance, and keep our systems running smoothly.
  • Customer engagement & support – be the trusted rating advisor for Māori landowners, answering questions and offering expert guidance.
  • Education & advocacy – share your knowledge, and help landowners understand rating laws and council policies.
  • Data & research – maintain accurate Māori land record databases, ensuring landowners’ details are up to date.

You’ll thrive on building strong relationships, ensuring fair rating practices, and delivering outstanding customer service. You’ll be motivated by working with purpose and seek continuous improvement in all you do – for Council & the community. You will support the wider Rates team by sharing knowledge and with workload, so you’ll need to be adaptable, a quick learner and enjoy working collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

To excel in this role, you should have:

  • Strong experience in rating administration, rating frameworks, and relevant legislation
  • A customer-first approach
  • Great attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), with the ability to effectively build relationships
  • A proactive attitude to problem-solving
