The opportunity - Te āheinga
We're seeking a skilled and passionate Senior Project Manager to join our Strategy and Planning Group and lead the delivery of a key strategic initiative - Te Pae o te Rangi - a landmark project funded through our Long-Term Plan (LTP).
This fixed-term role runs through to 30 September 2027, aligning with the completion and close-out of the project. Te Pae o te Rangi, meaning the ledge of the heavens, is a name gifted by the kāhui hapū (Puketapu, Pukerangiora, Manukorihi and Otaraua), reflecting the deep connection between land, water, and people. The project will extend the Coastal Walkway from Bell Block to Waitara, creating a safe and scenic 22.9km off-road shared path from Waitara to Ngāmotu.

You'll be at the heart of a transformative journey, working alongside four hapū, stakeholders, and delivery partners to bring this vision to life.

Key responsibilities - Ngā haepapa matua
This includes the following:
- Deliver the Te Pae o te Rangi project working in partnership with Puketapu, Pukerangiora, Manukorihi, and Otaraua hapū, ensuring the project delivers on its intended outputs and objectives within the timeframes (30 June 2027 for NZTA funding) and budget allocated ($42.3m)
- Undertake the Project Manager role working within the Council's Project Management Framework
- Ensure health and safety leadership is embedded throughout the entirety of the project using the Council's Safety in Design process
- Ensure accurate reporting on the project, including reporting to the projects steering group and any Council committee assigned oversight of Council's strategic projects
- Work with the Council's procurement and commercial services team to ensure contract documents and tenders are prepared in line with Council policy and legal requirements
- Support both the internal project team and suppliers to meet their requirements for successful delivery of the project
- Actively ensure that legislative requirements and Council policies and procedures are fulfilled
Essential skills and experience - Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako:
- Tertiary Project Management, Engineering, Science, Technology, Architectural, Building, Construction, or Planning qualification
- Relevant project management accreditation
- Proven track record in forming effective partnerships working with hapū and strong cultural awareness
- Proven ability to build strong project delivery teams including stakeholders and suppliers
- At least five years project management experience
