Taupō District Council is entering a transformational period of infrastructure investment – and we’re looking for a Senior Project Manager to help deliver once-in-a-generation projects across water, wastewater, transport and community assets.

The opportunity | Te wāhi whakahirahira

Lead major civil infrastructure projects shaping Taupō’s future - from a significant water treatment plant upgrade and seismic resilience works to long-term planning for transformational wastewater and transport infrastructure to help service a growing district.

You’ll be part of a well-resourced and respected Project Management Office, managing projects from early planning through to delivery.

  • Identify project benefits and stakeholder needs early, and track progress against them.
  • Lead end-to-end delivery of capital works - from design to construction.
  • Manage project planning, finances, scope, risks, and reporting using TDC’s methodology.
  • Provide clear, strategic updates to elected members and project sponsors.
  • Build trusted relationships with iwi, funders, community groups, and local businesses.
  • Oversee delivery partners and ensure contract compliance.
  • Mentor and lead two emerging project management professionals.
  • Contribute to long-term infrastructure planning and investment decisions.

As a seasoned infrastructure project manager, you bring the skills, diplomacy, and confidence to navigate complex delivery in public and private sector settings. You lead with professionalism and purpose, working in partnership with stakeholders to achieve outcomes that matter for the community.  With a team-oriented approach, collaboration is at the heart of how you work.

You’ll bring:

  • A tertiary qualification in project management, engineering, or a related discipline
  • Experience gained across local government, consultancy, or construction environments
  • A track record of genuine engagement and enduring partnerships with iwi and hapū to deliver infrastructure project outcomes, will be highly regarded.
