About the role:

We are kicking of a full review of our District Plan, and this is your opportunity to make a real impact as you bring your passion for planning to a variety of urban and rural issues. You will play a key role in planning for the future of Whanganui as part of a team that supports and enables the good management of the built form and character of our great little city.

Your primary responsibilities will include preparing plan changes and variations to the District Plan and other associated environmental strategies, policies and plans, and presenting them to committees and hearings as required.

You will have excellent written and oral communication skills, analytical skills and the ability to engage with a wide range of people. You will have good technical skills, a solid understanding of the Resource Management Act and be able to contribute to the organisation at the operational, strategic and political levels. As a Senior Policy Planner, you will provide technical leadership, mentoring and leadership for less experienced staff.

Your Experience:

  • Tertiary qualification in Planning or Resource Management
  • Understanding of the District Plan process and up-to-date knowledge of Resource Management Act legislation
  • Eligibility for Full NZPI membership
  • 5+ years' experience
