Senior / Policy Advisor (Kaitohutohu Matua / Kaitohutohu), Environmental Policy

We are seeking four Senior / Policy Advisors to join our Environmental Policy Department. In Wellington you will be based in the heart of the City in our brand new Cuba St office with easy access to many of the fantastic places and opportunities that people love about our capital city. Our new building in Masterton is nearing completion and provides an exciting opportunity for a different lifestyle.
We are at a crucial stage in our implementation of national policy direction into the Regional Policy Statement and Natural Resources Plan for the Wellington Region. We can only solve the complex natural resource problems that we face with an openness to new ideas and methodologies, intelligence, enthusiasm and a collaborative approach.

About the roles:
Depending on your skills and experience, you will be:
Engaging directly with mana whenua and our communities
Providing expert policy and planning evidence
Working collaboratively across agencies
Advising councillors and senior leadership
Representing the interests of Council.
Skills and experience required:
To be successful in this role, you will need:
A tertiary qualification in natural resource management, planning, law, public policy, economics, environmental science or similar
An understanding of and respect for te ao Māori and tikanga
Skills or an interest in learning te reo Māori and using it in your work
An understanding of the Resource Management Act 1991, and the role of regional councils in New Zealand
The ability to work with partners to analyse and develop options for regional natural resource management issues
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Strong relationship management skills.
To be considered at the Senior Policy Advisor level you will need to demonstrate the ability to perform a leadership role within a project, take on more complex issues and provide mentoring support to other members of a team.
