Senior Monitoring Officer
Te Kaunihera aa Takiwaa o Waikato (Waikato District Council) serves the Waikato District which covers more than 400,000 hectares (418.893ha). It borders Hamilton City from the north, east and west. There are 2,422 kilometres of roads which you can travel throughout the district.

About this role:
A rare and exciting new opportunity for a role in our Monitoring Team has come about and we are excited to offer you the chance to be part of not only this great team working across our district, but also a great organisation. This critical role will be responsible for leading and engaging a team of Monitoring Officers to monitor and ensure compliance with rules and bylaws are designed and adhered to, taking a customer centric approach to keeping people and our environment safe, and communities liveable.
What I do?
As a Senior within the Monitoring Team, you will manage the workflow of the team to ensure consistent service delivery and set clear goals with team members and provide coaching to enhance their performance. You will model the expected behaviours, values, and attitudes to uphold the Council's customer service standards.
You will add value to the organisation by monitoring compliance with the District Plan, Resource Consents and Council Bylaws and may need to undertake appropriate enforcement action when non-compliance is identified (as directed by the Monitoring and Compliance Team Leader or Regulatory Services Manager). In this role you will be supporting the Council to undertake its functions under Section 35 of the Resource Management Act 1991.
What I bring?
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated leadership experience in managing teams engaged in regulatory duties, within a local government environment. You will also have at least three years' experience working in a Monitoring Team. Relevant environmental applied science tertiary qualification is preferred but not mandatory.
It is essential for you to have previous experience in coaching and mentoring with a strong focus on interpersonal and relationship-building skills. We are seeking someone who is dedicated to adhering to health and safety requirements, as this is a crucial aspect of the role.
A thorough understanding of complex legislation and technical matters relating to the Resource Management Act 1991, District Plans/Bylaws, enforcement, and local government is essential. We will require the suitable applicant to have a current full driver's licence, along with an understanding of, or a willingness to learn about, te ao Māori and tikanga.

Additional Information
Locations: Tuakau Office (but can be based from Ngaaruawaahia Office)
Hours of work: 40 hours/week
