The opportunity - Te āheinga

We’re looking for a confident and experienced Senior Health, Safety and Wellbeing Advisor to join our team on a nine-month fixed-term contract, covering parental leave. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping and supporting a strong health, safety and wellbeing culture across NPDC.

In this role, you’ll be responsible for establishing and maintaining the highest standards of health and safety performance, ensuring our people, contractors and community go home safe and well each day.

You’ll provide trusted expertise on the practical implementation of our corporate health, safety and wellbeing policies and processes, and act as a key advisor to leaders across the organisation.

Key responsibilities - Ngā haepapa matua

  • Provide health, safety and wellbeing (HSW) expertise and advice
  • Ensure NPDC is actively managing its HSW hazards and risks
  • Communicate clearly and influence a wide range of stakeholders to adopt safe practices
  • Resolve complex HSW issues, recommending appropriate courses of action to address compliance and legislative matters
  • Incorporate NPDC’s core corporate HSW policies and procedures into operational and strategic decision making
  • Monitor, manage and report on NPDC’s critical risks and assurance programmes
  • Support the HSW Lead in preparing and undertaking health and safety auditing and compliance-related activities
  • Accurately record and document all decisions, recommendations and resolutions
  • Support the HSW Business Partners as appropriate, especially in high-risk or major incidents

Essential skills and experience - Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako

  • Relevant tertiary qualification - degree or diploma
  • Minimum five years’ work experience in a health and safety role
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of current New Zealand health and safety legislation
  • Ability to understand and apply appropriate health and safety principles to operational activities
  • Understanding of occupational health and injury management practices and processes
  • Good understanding of safety management systems
  • Ability to challenge ‘mental models’ in a positive and constructive way to drive change and new thinking
  • Some knowledge of relevant HR policies and procedures
  • Proven ability to build strong working relationships
  • High level of computer competency, particularly Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to work independently and make decisions as required

You can expect to start in this nine-month fixed-term, full-time role with a salary of between $112,646 - $121,406 per annum.
