ABOUT THE ROLE – NGĀ ĀHUATANGA O TE TŪRANGA

This is a brand-new opportunity to step into a senior advisory role, supporting development across the Taupō District. As our Senior Compliance and Development Advisor, you’ll be actively involved in:

  • Providing early, strategic input into development proposals, helping shape practical and compliant outcomes
  • Leading and supporting complex compliance monitoring, investigations, and enforcement activities under the Resource Management Act
  • Supporting high-risk or sensitive compliance matters, ensuring robust, defensible regulatory outcomes
  • Working collaboratively with developers, consultants, iwi, and internal teams to resolve issues early and improve project outcomes
  • Mentoring others and contributing to continuous improvement across the Resource Consents function

This role sits within our Resource Consents team and works closely across Council to balance environmental, statutory, and community outcomes.

 

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR - KEI TE KIMI MĀTOU I TĒNEI MOMO TANGATA

We’re looking for a confident, experienced professional who can navigate complexity and build strong, constructive relationships.

You will bring:

  • Significant senior-level experience in resource consents and/or compliance within a NZ regulatory environment
  • Strong working knowledge of the Resource Management Act and District Plan processes
  • Proven experience managing complex consenting or non-compliance matters
  • The ability to influence outcomes early and guide better development outcomes
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to manage challenging conversations and conflict constructively
  • Sound professional judgement and a strong focus on achieving practical, timely results

Beyond that, what really matters is how you approach your work - your ability to think strategically, communicate clearly, and bring others with you when navigating complex or sensitive issues.
