Te Kaunihera o Wakatū - Nelson City Council, is actively seeking a Senior Contracts Supervisor to join our dedicated team. As a Unitary Authority responsible for providing key infrastructure, transport services, economic development, and a range of regulatory functions, this key role focuses on managing and supervising a range of contracts to ensure that services provided meet the highest standards of quality, compliance, and council objectives.

About the role - Kō tēnei tūranga mahi

As a Senior Contracts Supervisor, you will be responsible for the administration and monitoring of contract performance for various operational services. You will collaborate closely with contractors and internal stakeholders to ensure that services are delivered efficiently, effectively, and in line with contractual obligations.

Key responsibilities include the following:

  • Overseeing the performance of contracts and service providers such as road maintenance, road sweeping, line marking, footpath/drainage renewals, pavement rehabilitation, and minor works to ensure compliance with quality standards in accordance with Council policies.
  • Managing contract negotiations and renewals effectively in line with annual budgets, monthly expenditure, and reporting.
  • Analysing and reporting on contract performance metrics.
  • Providing asset inventory and condition assessments, identifying opportunities, and making recommendations for cost savings and service improvement.
  • Developing and maintaining strong relationships with contractors and stakeholders.

About you - Ko ngā pūmanawa ō

The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Extensive experience in contract management or supervisory roles, preferably in a public sector context.
  • A strong understanding of the principles and practicalities of roading operations, management and processes, road safety design/investigation, and the Safe Systems Approach.
  • Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective relationships.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of contract law, compliance standards, and risk management.
  • Excellent analytical skills, with an ability to interpret contractual documents and performance data.
  • A proactive approach towards problem-solving and continuous improvement.
