About the role:

 

Selwyn District Council is looking for a Senior Communications Advisor to join our Marketing and Communications team on a 6-month fixed term contract — This is an exciting opportunity to provide support during a period of review and future planning for the team.

In this role, you'll lead the development and delivery of integrated communications strategies across a diverse and often complex portfolio. From shaping key messages to managing stakeholder engagement and media relationships, you'll play a critical role in how we connect with our community.

This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced communications professional seeking a meaningful short-term opportunity with variety and impact.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading communications and engagement across complex and sometimes sensitive issues
  • Partnering with stakeholders and senior leaders to provide trusted advice and direction
  • Shaping and enhancing our public profile through media, content, and campaigns
  • Delivering integrated communications plans with clear goals and measurable outcomes
  • Creating high-quality, accessible content across digital, print, and emerging channels

About you:

You're a confident, proactive communicator who thrives in a collaborative environment. You bring both strategic thinking and hands-on delivery, with a knack for turning complex information into clear, engaging content.

You'll also bring:

  • Proven experience in communications or a related field
  • Confidence working with senior leaders and building strong, trusted relationships
  • Strong strategic thinking, with experience developing and delivering communications plans
  • A sharp eye for detail, balanced with an understanding of the bigger picture
  • Creativity and curiosity, with a drive to continuously improve and innovate
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines
