Senior Building Surveyor - Residential Inspection

About the role
Our Building team are responsible for consenting, inspecting, and certifying building work under the Building Act 2004 for the fastest-growing district in New Zealand.
As a Senior within the Residential Inspections Team, you will support the Team Leader in the leading the day-to-day delivery of building services to the community.
You will provide day-to-day leadership, technical support and guidance to colleagues, including on the job supervision, coaching and mentoring to support team member development, ensuring their effective contribution in the building process.
Key areas of responsibility include:
- Leadership: support the Team Leader in providing direction, empowerment, and motivation to the team. Assist in developing others to achieve organisational goals.
- Technical: Maintain technical competency and apply knowledge of the legislation, inspecting building work to determine compliance clearly documenting reasons for decisions to ensure the BCA maintains robust records. Provide day-to-day technical support to Residential Building Surveyors to ensure realistic and sound decisions based on consideration of all the facts to manage risks.
- Accreditation Compliance: Ensuring the ongoing compliance with the quality systems and procedures of the department including completing allocated procedure audits and technical reviews. Champion and actively contribute to continuous improvement and exhibit best practice approach through actively using the quality system and associated standard operating procedures.
About you
As a Senior Building Surveyor, you will have:
- At least 5 years experience in the building industry
- A NZ Diploma in Building Surveying (Level 6) or equivalent NZ qualification
- Understanding and application of the Building Act, Regulations, Building Code, Standards, and the consent process
- Ability to make appropriate and confident technical decisions using sound judgement, risk analysis and research
- High level digital literacy and experience in a range of software applications
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and time management skills
- Current Class 1 New Zealand driver's licence
