Remuneration Specialist
About the role
We have a 6-month fixed term opportunity to join our supportive and collaborative People Team as a Remuneration Specialist.
In this role, you'll play a key part in designing, strengthening, and implementing a robust fit‑for‑purpose remuneration framework that supports fair, transparent, and sustainable pay outcomes across Selwyn District Council.
This role offers a fantastic opportunity to apply your specialist expertise to a meaningful piece of work that will have a lasting impact on how remuneration is managed across the council.
You will be responsible for:
- Designing, establishing, and embedding a fit-for-purpose remuneration framework that supports fair, transparent, and sustainable pay outcomes across Selwyn District Council
- Collaborating with HR, Payroll and Finance to ensure best practice remuneration processes appropriate for the organisation
- Strengthening Council's remuneration architecture and governance
- Supporting the annual remuneration review process
- Providing specialist input into PSA collective bargaining, remuneration forecasting, and HRIS requirements to ensure systems enable the remuneration framework and processes
About you
We are looking for someone highly skilled with expert remuneration knowledge,
You will be known for your strong interpersonal and relationship management skills. Build credibility quickly and influence stakeholders with confidence, ensuring alignment and successful outcomes.
You will have:
- 4+ years' experience in relevant work
- Proven experience in remuneration, reward, or compensation management, ideally in a complex or unionised environment.
- Experience delivering or contributing to the design or improvement of remuneration frameworks, structures and pay systems.
- Strong analytical capability, including remuneration modelling, forecasting, and interpretation of market data.
- Working knowledge of NZ employment legislation and good practice as it relates to pay, rewards and bargaining.
- Experience partnering with leaders and HR to provide clear, practical advice and guidance on remuneration decisions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to translate technical content into leader-friendly guidance.
Ideally, you'll also have:
- Demonstrated experience designing or significantly reshaping remuneration frameworks, structures, or pay systems.
- Experience working with Strategic Pay or similar job evaluation and market pricing frameworks.
- Exposure to PSA or other union negotiations.
- Project management experience delivering change, including stakeholder engagement and process implementation.
