Principal/Senior Resource Consents Planner

Permanent - full-time

Are you a passionate planner looking to take on more responsibility and be involved in mentoring junior staff in a growing and dynamic district?

Kāpiti Coast District Council is looking for an enthusiastic, energetic and experienced planner to join our Resource Consents team. If you are a planner or resource management specialist wanting to make a defining move in your career while being able to practice in the Wellington region, this role is perfect for you. The role offers a fantastic step into a mentoring position while still being able to utilise your technical expertise to assess and contribute to some exciting development projects. The council is committed to building an organisation that is respected for its caring, dynamic and effective 'open for business' approach. As a friendly and supportive council, this role offers a great opportunity for someone wanting to work with innovative managers and a knowledgeable team that have a range of skills and experience from both New Zealand and overseas.

With increasing population and financial growth, major expressway roading projects due for completion shortly, and a diverse and dynamic coastal environment, now is a great time to be part of a team that assists in developing the district. Beautiful beaches and a short journey to Wellington make the Kapiti Coast a great place to live and work.

The Consents team has strong focus on innovation and improving our practices so we're after someone who takes pride in their work, has a passion for continuous improvement and has sound technical expertise in resource consents and RMA processes. Being adaptable and a good problem solver are essential skills required for the role. Incorporating technology, being efficient and effective and fostering relationships with customers are key focus areas for the consents team going forward, so demonstrated experience in these areas will be a benefit.

The right person for this position will thrive in a dynamic and progressive working environment and enjoy the challenge of assessing complex and varied applications in a friendly and supportive environment. Your ability to work effectively across a wide range of issues and enable a customer-focused environment is important to your success in the role. As part of the resource consents leadership group you will have the opportunity to empower individuals and provide direction through supportive coaching and mentoring.

The right candidate for this role has:

  • strong knowledge and understanding of the RMA, particularly resource consents
  • excellent communication skills
  • a demonstrated proactive and collaborative approach
  • a relevant tertiary qualification in resource management or planning, and
  • ideally a minimum of five years' experience.
Enquiries about this position should be directed to Eloise Carstens, Resource Consents Team Leader on 04 296 4700 or free phone 0800 486 486.

The preferred candidate will be required to undergo the usual pre-employment checks, including drug and alcohol screening, criminal history, and credit checks. Please note you must be eligible to work in New Zealand.
