About the role - Kō tēnei tūranga mahi
- Provide trusted legal advice to the Chief Executive, Senior Leadership Team, and elected members
- Provide strategic advice on complex issues that impact our city and its people
- Attend Council and Committee meetings as required, ensuring decisions are legally sound and meet with Council’s strategic objectives
- Partner with business units to identify and manage legal risks before they become challenges
- Lead litigation management and drive improvements in legal processes
- Stay ahead of legislative changes and share your expertise through staff training
About you - Ko ngā pūmanawa ō
You're a seasoned legal professional who thrives on complexity and challenge. You combine sharp analytical skills with the ability to communicate clearly and influence at the highest levels. You're proactive, solutions-focused, and passionate about using your expertise to make a positive impact on the community.
Furthermore, you will possess:
- A law degree (LLB) and current practicing certificate
- Significant post-qualification experience (10+ years) in one or more of the following areas - local government law, public and administrative law, commercial law, litigation, resource management, or property law
- Strong ability to communicate clearly and negotiate effectively, translating complex legal issues into practical, easy-to-understand advice
- Driven and solution-oriented, with a steadfast commitment to ethical practice and professional standards
