Principal Advisor Urban Design (LGWM)

Our Urban Design team is looking for a creative thinker to join us as the Principal Advisor to champion quality of spaces.
Wellington is growing significantly. By 2050 our city will have grown by at least 50,000 inhabitants, with a projected total population of up to 280,000. To accommodate all of these new Wellingtonians we need to develop our city.
Wellington City Council is looking for a Principal Advisor Urban Design who can collaboratively work as one of Wellington City's key technical advisors to the council and LGWM programme to co-create innovative solutions for our city to improve the quality of life in Wellington and position it to move confidently into the future. In this role, you will champion the agreed vision for LGWM 'to build a great harbour city that is accessible to all, with attractive places, shared streets, and efficient local and regional journeys' through a 'design led' approach, and advocate and apply best practice for high quality design processes and urban design outcomes. Let's Get Wellington Moving (LGWM) is a joint initiative between Wellington City Council, Greater Wellington Regional Council, and Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency. The internal WCC team which you will be a part of and the wider partner team is passionate about developing and delivering an integrated transport system that supports Wellington's growth, while making it safer and easier to move around.
Your ability to quickly build trust and positively influence will make you a standout for this role; you will use your outstanding relationship building skills to provide expert strategic design and planning advice by working inclusively with a diverse group of people to reach consensus.
Flexible and adaptive to change, you will be a subject matter expert with senior level experience and a qualification in either urban design or landscape architecture with a knowledge of district and transport planning, including application of the Local Govt Act 2020. We are looking for people who can thrive in a complex and dynamic political environment and is not afraid to challenge to deliver outcomes that make a positive difference.
