Operations Team Leader - Transportation
We're looking for an experienced and people-focused Operations Team Leader - Transportation to join our team and build on the strong foundations already in place.
Waipā is growing, and so is our transport network. This is an opportunity to take on a team leader role, ensuring the continued delivery of safe, reliable and high-performing roading services across our district.

About the role
Responsible for the day-to-day delivery of roading maintenance and operational programmes across the district.
You'll lead a small team of specialists and work closely with contractors and stakeholders to ensure our network is safe, efficient and performing to agreed levels of service.
On any given day, you'll be:
- Leading and supporting a multidisciplinary team
- Managing maintenance and renewal programmes
- Overseeing contracts and contractor performance
- Ensuring budgets, timelines and quality targets are met
- Providing technical advice and reporting to support decision making
- Responding to network issues, events and emergencies when needed
This role combines supervision, technical expertise and operational delivery - so you'll need to be just as comfortable in the field as you are in the office.
About you
You'll be an experienced infrastructure professional who knows how to bring people together and get results.
You'll bring:
- Strong experience in civil engineering, roading or transport operations
- Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams
- Solid contract management experience (NZS3910/3917 highly regarded)
- A strong understanding of asset management and maintenance practices
- The ability to build great relationships with contractors, stakeholders and the community
- A practical, solutions-focused mindset and confidence making decisions
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (or equivalent experience)
- Full, clean driver licence
- Professional or postgraduate qualifications (a plus)
