What the job involves


Lead and empower your team to continue to produce excellent horticultural and facility standards across our districts open spaces, by providing exceptional levels of service to our residents and visitors. You will ensure that our stakeholder groups who admire and use our outdoor recreation reserves, public conveniences and cemeteries are provided with exceptionally maintained facilities. You'll foster existing relationships with key user groups and external agencies to ensure we meet our community's needs, have a solid business and industry background, and foster a productive and proactive culture within our Open Spaces workforce.

Who we are looking for

A proven people leader with strong financial and interpersonal skills who has relevant experience, vision and drive to ensure the service levels of our parks, recreational reserves, cemeteries, stock water and public conveniences are maintained to the agreed service levels. Working within the team and leading from the front your role will be to guide and empower others to achieve their best. With goals to maximise community service outputs and value for money, the successful applicant will need to be detail focussed, innovative and business savvy, with a thorough understanding of the industry gained through the right mix of qualifications and experience.

A bit about us

Managing 30 plus staff, based around cleaning, mowing, gardening, cemeteries, water race maintenance, and planning functions. These staff maintain the 86 parks and reserves, including the nationally recognised Ashburton Domain, on over 400 hectares of the Ashburton District which spans the area between the Rakaia and Rangitata Rivers and from the sea to the Alps.

Our Council provides services and support to a growing community of over 31,000 people.
