Modeller (Drinking Water)

This is a full-time position of 40 hours per week.

The opportunity

Your role will be to develop, maintain and operate drinking water hydraulic models and contribute to understanding the performance of the network, as well as help develop operations and capital upgrade solutions to network performance issues. Your skills will be utilised across the company, particularly by the Strategy and Planning and Operations Groups.

This position will predominantly be responsible for developing, maintaining and operating water supply hydraulic modelling. The ideal person will have a collaborative and adaptable approach.

You will get to:

  • Provide technical advice to network operations, planning, engineering and asset management teams
  • Contribute to technical reviews (peer review) of outsourced model build projects and master planning studies
  • Support strategic network planning and development control
  • Utilise calibrated hydraulic models to assess network performance against levels of service.

About us

To be successful in this role you will bring:

  • Minimum five years' local experience in drinking water hydraulic modelling gained in New Zealand
  • Tertiary qualified in Engineering (for example, Civil, Environmental Engineering or related field)
  • Advanced-level expertise in Infoworks WS Pro
  • Demonstrated experience in interpreting drinking water models, undertaking options assessments and delivering technical advice
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

About us

Wellington Water Ltd is the professional water services provider across Greater Wellington and South Wairarapa. Our job is to provide safe and healthy drinking water, collect and treat wastewater, and ensure the stormwater network is well managed.

We're a multi-council owned entity, tasked to manage the infrastructure and deliver water services to our communities. From Tuesday, 01 July 2026, a new chapter in water services begins. Tiaki Wai will take over responsibility for providing Three Waters Services to approximately 433,000 residents/citizens across the Wellington metro regions.

Tiaki Wai will own the water assets it operates, giving it greater independence to manage and improve water services for current and future communities. Wellington Water employees will transition into this new council-owned entity.
