The opportunity - Te āheinga
We're looking for a strategic and creative Marketing and Communications Advisor to join our award-winning team.
This is a unique opportunity to work across some of New Plymouth's most iconic venues and events, from the TSB Festival of Lights, TSB Showplace and the Bowl of Brooklands to Todd Energy Aquatic Centre, Puke Ariki and the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery.

As a Marketing and Communications Advisor, you'll be part of a collaborative team that rotates across NPDC's diverse business units.
You'll lead the development and delivery of strategic marketing and communications initiatives that enhance our reputation, engage our community, and support organisational goals.
From major events and venues to community pools and sustainability initiatives, your work will help shape how NPDC connects with our residents.
This is a full-time role and perfect for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, creative and supportive environment.
Key responsibilities - Ngā haepapa matua
- Develop and implement strategic marketing and communication plans
- Provide expert advice to business units across NPDC
- Create and manage content for a variety of channels and audiences
- Monitor and evaluate campaign performance, providing insights for improvement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders
- Support NPDC's reputation strategy by identifying risks and opportunities
- Contribute to a high-performing, collaborative team culture
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and Council policies
- Other marketing and communication duties as required
Essential skills and experience - Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako
- Minimum five years' experience in a marketing, communication, media, or local government role
- Demonstrated recent experience of delivering strategic marketing and communications initiatives
- Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills
- Excellent writing skills with the ability to tailor content for diverse audiences and channels
- Experience with social media, EDMs, websites, and brand management
- Local government experience is preferred but not essential

You can expect to start in this permanent, full-time role with a salary of between $88,157 - $95,013.
