This position is responsible for leading the Council's Civic and ceremonial events programme, delivering such events as Citizenship Ceremonies, ANZAC Day, February 22 Commemorations and functions for visiting dignitaries.
You will manage the City's international engagement, including the supervision of the Sister City programme to ensure that these relationships continue to create mutual benefits focused on educational, economic and business spheres. You will have a close working relationship with the Mayor, therefore you will understand that the smooth running of events will come down to the smallest of details. You will be one step ahead, approach all matters with sensitivity and have an understanding for cultural requirements. You are a public facing representative and are actively involved in all events, therefore a professional demeanour and an ability to build trust and confidence is a must.
You will be based in the Office of the Chief Executive and works with other Council teams, the Office of the Mayor, Government and non-Government agencies, stakeholders and the community on the implementation of the Council's International Relations policy. A key objective will be working to enhance the international profile of Christchurch.
Who are you?
Our ideal candidate will have a love for this city and understand our unique story. You will have demonstrated experience in stakeholder management in an international context, accompanied by experience with leadership and financial responsibility. You will show a high degree of initiative and be confident, thorough with an engaging demeanour when dealing with dignitaries and visitors. It is essential that you are highly experienced and competent in managing Civic and Internal visits and that you have a strong understanding of Council, and its activities. The ability to speak additional languages would be beneficial with an understanding for Maori protocol.
