Land Development Engineer Team Leader

It is exciting to be part of this and to support the growth, we are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated people leader for our Land Development Engineering team.

This position is focused on leading a team of highly capable engineers who evaluate resource consent applications and engineering plans and oversee the physical works of subdivisions across the district.

To be successful in this role you will be accomplished at building and maintaining strong relationships across internal teams and with developers and their technical representatives. You will have technical skills and knowledge of land development and construction to support the work of your team and to allow you to work alongside our customers and stakeholders.

You will be part of our Consents department, with five teams that include a mix of land development engineers, consents planners and administrative support staff. This is a high performing department where working closely together and being committed to providing quality and timely customer service is a natural part of our culture.

The Land Development Engineering Team Leader is a key role in the Consents department and in Council - this is a unique leadership opportunity for the right person. You will need a tertiary-level engineering degree or qualification in a relevant field and ideally a minimum of seven years' experience in land development engineering or a similar role. Experience leading a team is highly desirable.

Key attributes essential for the successful candidate include the following:

  • Understanding of how resource consents fit with land development
  • Understanding of land development and the significance of approving assets to vest in Council
  • Capable of facilitating and influencing resolution of unexpected land development challenges
  • Proven interpersonal and relationship skills and capability to engage with a broad range of professionals and contractors
  • Able to motivate staff towards positive change, including process improvements
