Kaiārahi Kounga Pākihi | Business Excellence Hub Team Leader

Business Excellence Hub Team Leader

We're looking for a capable and forward-thinking leader to build, lead, and continuously evolve this new team. This is an opportunity for someone who is excited by change, comfortable with ambiguity, and motivated by the chance to build a team and shape new ways of working from the ground up.

If you're energised by creating something new, challenging the status quo, and finding smarter ways of doing things, this could be the opportunity you've been waiting for.

About the opportunity

Reporting to the Business Excellence and Risk Manager, you'll lead a team of seven and play a key role in establishing the foundations, culture, systems, and processes that will support the Hub's success.

The Hub has been designed to create a more efficient, consistent, and resilient approach to business support across Council. It brings together functions previously spread across the organisation, improving visibility of work, prioritisation, resource management, and service delivery outcomes.

You'll lead a diverse, multidisciplinary team covering business support for operational teams, business process management, property management, and fleet management. Working closely with managers and leaders across Council, you'll help embed better ways of working, build capability, and influence how support services are delivered.

This is a rare opportunity to shape a new team and make a practical difference to how Council works.

  • Establish and lead a brand-new Business Excellence Hub
  • Lead and develop a diverse team
  • Drive innovation, continuous improvement, resilience, and efficiency

About you

You'll be an experienced people leader who enjoys improving systems, solving problems, developing others, and bringing people on the journey.

You'll thrive in an environment where you can challenge traditional ways of thinking, make practical improvements, and support better outcomes for customers, colleagues, and the wider organisation.

Ideally, you'll bring:

  • Experience leading business support, operational support, administration, shared services, or multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong leadership and people development skills, with the ability to build capability for the future
  • A passion for business excellence, continuous improvement, and smarter ways of working
  • Experience improving processes, systems, technology use, or service delivery models
  • Excellent relationship-building and stakeholder engagement skills
  • A strategic mindset combined with a practical, hands-on approach and the confidence to lead meaningful change
