He angitūtanga | The opportunity:

We’re seeking a dynamic Human Resources Manager to lead and manage all aspects of Council’s HR function, driving strategic alignment, operational excellence, and a culture of engagement. This pivotal role offers the opportunity to shape HR strategy, advise senior leadership, champion organisational change, and foster a high-performing, inclusive workplace while ensuring compliance with employment legislation and best practice. You’ll lead a small, dedicated People and Capability team, working collaboratively to deliver impactful initiatives that support staff and strengthen organisational culture.

He kōrero mōu | About you:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Professional HR qualification (e.g., CIPD, HRINZ) preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in HR leadership, ideally within local government or a complex organisational setting.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Proven experience in HR strategy, employee relations, and talent management.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Sound knowledge of New Zealand employment law and HR best practice.
  • Ability to influence and build credibility with staff at all levels.
  • Strategic thinker with practical problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion.
