This role is responsible for providing operational support for Health, Safety & Wellbeing across the Council. The Council has multiple sites and is responsible for ensuring HS&W practices are followed by employees and all Contractors within a complex environment. The role will work proactively in conjunction with the Manager – Health, Safety & Wellbeing to maintain the programme of continuous improvement in the management of Health, Safety & Wellbeing and ensure identified best practice is implemented within the Council.

 Your Responsibilities:

  • Support the Manager – HS&W to deliver the key objectives from the Health, Safety & Wellbeing Strategic Plan
  • Coordinate and pro-actively facilitate the councils Contractor Management process to ensure best practice is maintained
  • Promote, champion and drive continuous improvement in order to create a Health, Safety and Well-being focused Culture
  • Investigate all incidents and near misses reported to Council and ensures corrective actions are put in place
  • Provide specialist legislative advice to Managers on all areas of Health & Safety
  • Identify employee training needs in relation to Health, Safety & Wellbeing and develop a framework to ensure this training is continually updated and recorded
  • Schedule & coordinate the HS&W Committee meetings and maintain the training database of our HS&W Representatives
  • Work with the business units across Council to ensure Health, Safety and Wellbeing standards are appropriately maintained within their areas of control
  • Having a commitment to Health & Safety as detailed in our policies and guidelines and as defined by the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 to ensure compliance
Your Experience:
  • 5 years plus in a specialist Health, Safety and Well-being Relevant tertiary qualification in a related field is highly desirable
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the current Workplace H&S legislation
  • Proven experience working with external agencies such as ACC & WorkSafe
  • Effective stakeholder engagement skills, with strong communication in all facets.
The successful person will need to be prepared to travel district wide at times, so flexibility and a genuine commitment to Health, Safety and Well-being need to shine through. The ability to be pro-active and a self-starter are a must, as this will be a busy role in an organisation going through significant change. Exposure to a health and safety incident reporting system would be highly advantageous as FNDC currently use PeopleSafe.
