ABOUT THE ROLE – NGĀ ĀHUATANGA O TE TŪRANGA
Join Taupō
District Council in a pivotal leadership role where you'll help shape how we
manage health, safety and risk across a diverse and operationally complex
organisation.
As our
Health, Safety and Risk Manager, you'll lead the ongoing development of our
health, safety and wellbeing systems while also overseeing Council's enterprise
risk management programme. Working alongside managers, senior leaders and
governance forums, you'll help ensure risks are identified, understood and
managed effectively, enabling informed decision-making and stronger
organisational performance.
You'll lead
our Safety & Risk team, building capability, strengthening systems and
supporting managers across Council to effectively manage health, safety and
risk. The role provides an opportunity to drive continuous improvement, embed
good practice and help ensure our people have the tools, knowledge and
confidence to succeed.
We're looking for someone with a strong health and safety foundation who is excited by the opportunity to lead a broader portfolio that includes enterprise risk. This role is ideal for an experienced Health and Safety professional ready to take the next step in their career. You'll bring the leadership skills to build a high-performing team, foster trusted relationships across the organisation, and influence positive outcomes. Equally important is a desire to keep learning, broaden your capability, and grow alongside the role.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR - KEI TE KIMI MĀTOU I TĒNEI MOMO TANGATA
We're looking for a capable and
pragmatic leader who can build strong relationships, bring clarity to complex
challenges, and help others succeed.
You'll have a solid health and
safety foundation and be confident providing advice, guidance and leadership
across a diverse organisation. You understand that lasting improvements come
from working alongside people, building capability, and creating practical
solutions that fit the real world.
You'll be comfortable engaging with
everyone from frontline workers to senior leaders, bringing a balanced approach
that combines sound judgement, credibility and a genuine desire to make a
positive difference.
Experience in enterprise risk management, insurance or business continuity will be an advantage, but we're equally interested in people who are keen to broaden their expertise and take on new challenges. We're looking for someone who is motivated by continuous improvement, enjoys developing others, and is excited by the opportunity to help shape the future of this growing function.
If this role excites you and you can see yourself making a positive contribution to Taupō District Council, we'd love to hear from you.
