Group Manager Strategy and Finance

About The Role:
This newly created executive leadership position brings together Strategy and Finance functions to elevate strategic thinking and financial stewardship across the organisation. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, the Group Manager – Strategy & Finance will lead a diverse team responsible for financial accounting, strategic planning, programme delivery, rates, commercial assets, and business services.
You’ll be at the heart of shaping long-term planning, policy, and investment decisions, ensuring fiscal integrity and sustainable outcomes for the Tasman District. This role also oversees the Chief Financial Advisor and champions the FMIS replacement project, driving innovation and continuous improvement in financial systems and processes.
As an ELT member, you provide strategic leadership, show support for the Council's vision and priorities, and fulfil statutory responsibilities. Lead beyond your portfolio, contribute to organisational outcomes, and model high-performance public service behaviours and culture.
Skills & Experience:
We’re looking for a seasoned executive with deep expertise in strategic finance, planning, and governance. You’ll thrive in complexity, bring clarity to decision-making, and be a trusted contributor to the Executive Leadership Team. In addition, you will have:
- A Master’s degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Management, or Finance.
- Extensive experience in strategic planning, financial governance, and performance management.
- Demonstrated success in leading large, complex teams and driving organisational change.
- Strong working knowledge of relevant legislation, financial reporting standards, and local government frameworks.
- Exceptional communication, analytical, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- A collaborative mindset and the ability to influence across all levels of the organisation.
- A commitment to te ao Māori and understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles.
