The opportunity - Te āheinga
We’re looking for a Green Plumber to join our Three Waters Operations Team on a two-year, fixed-term basis starting April/May 2026. This is an exciting and unique role that will play a key part in supporting our mock billing programme and the transition to volumetric charging in FY27/28.
As our Green Plumber, you’ll lead the way in promoting, implementing and maintaining water conservation solutions and sustainable plumbing practices across the district. You’ll support our community to use water more efficiently, help protect our environment and contribute to the long-term sustainability of our Three Waters network.
This is a hands-on, operational role with a strong focus on fieldwork and practical delivery. You’ll be out in the community working directly with property owners, businesses and internal teams to identify opportunities, improve water efficiency and ensure sustainable practices are embedded and upheld.

Key responsibilities - Ngā haepapa matua
- Advise and educate customers on water-saving technologies and practices
- Install, maintain and repair water-efficient plumbing fixtures and systems
- Conduct water audits and recommend conservation measures
- Administer and supervise contractors working on water conservation projects
- Process applications, service requests and provide technical information to customers
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, council policies and sustainability standards
- Perform acoustic leak detection to identify and locate water losses within the network using specialised equipment and techniques
Essential skills and experience - Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako
- NZ Certificate in Plumbing, drain laying or water services or equivalent Level 4 qualification
- Five plus years’ experience in plumbing, water conservation or related fields
- Demonstrated commitment to sustainability and water efficiency
- Experience or training in acoustic leak detection is highly desirable

You can expect to start in this two-year fixed-term, full-time role with a salary of between $76,621 and $82,579.
