The Govett-Brewster Art Gallery/Len Lye Centre is Aotearoa New Zealand's leading contemporary art museum and the home of the internationally acclaimed Len Lye Centre. Situated in the heart of Taranaki, this whare toi celebrates toi tūroa and toi hou, offering innovative exhibitions and kaupapa ako that inspire and connect our hapori. Are you passionate about connecting tamariki, rangatahi, and whānau with the arts through Te Ao and Te Reo Māori?

Join the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery/Len Lye Centre as a Pouako Ara Māori, where you will be a vital member of our Learning Team developing, promoting and delivering education programmes for Kura Kaupapa, bilingual and mainstream education groups with a Te Reo focus. This 12-month, fixed-term role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact while covering for parental leave.

Key responsibilities - Ngā Haepapa Matua:

• Collaborating with the Learning team under the management of the Supervisor to develop, communicate and deliver best practice education experiences and programmes to students, akonga, pouako, tamariki, rangatahi, whānau and other relevant learners
• Develop network with kōpae, kura kaupapa, bilingual and mainstream education groups with a Te Reo Māori focus and deliver programmes in the classroom, offsite locations as well as the Galleries, Museum and Libraries
• Actively engage young people in the gallery's exhibitions, collections and projects
• Assist with the development of Te Reo Māori education resource material
• Provide Te Reo/Te Ao Māori advice as required for programming
• Comply with Health and Safety and Vulnerable Children legislation
• Actively ensure that legislative requirements and Council policies and procedures are fulfilled, particularly in relation to all key relevant legislation

Essential skills and experience - Ngā Pūkenga Me Ngā Wheako:

• Māori whakapapa and fluent communicator in Te Reo Māori or Te Reo o Taranaki
• Experience in planning and implementing arts education programmes for young people
• Tertiary learning/teaching qualification or relative teaching experience
• Knowledge of Te Marautanga o Aotearoa and NZ School Curriculum and teaching methods
• Knowledge of Ngā Toi Māori
