Governance and Risk Manager
- High-profile, Regional Council
- Manage two core Council portfolios
- Invercargill-based
In partnership with its community, Environment Southland (Regional Council) is responsible for the sustainable management of Southland's natural resources - land, water, air and coast. Council operates in a large geographical region from Stewart Island to Fiordland. Due to a recent realignment, the Governance and Risk Manager role is a newly formed position.
Reporting to the General Manager People and Governance, The Manager will be responsible for ensuring that the machinery of Council is delivered efficiently through two work streams – Risk (assure Council operates within its legislative framework and that risks are governed appropriately) and Governance (provide support and advice to Council and elected members on democracy matters including policy, protocols, elections, training and development etc.). The Manager will be responsible for a small team and there will be an initial focus on exploring the current state and then fully embedding the relevant functions, such as BCP.
To be considered for this key position, you must have sound experience with risk management along with an understanding of the application of legislation and statutory requirements. You will be an experienced people manager and ideally have worked in local or central Government. Working at Environment Southland requires all staff to uphold the council's Te Tiriti o Waitangi responsibilities as part of their day-to-day role. This might be through the appropriate delivery of functions through various legislation where Te Tiriti o Waitangi or partnering with mana whenua is required or upholding the commitments that elected councillors have made to Ngāi Tahu ki Murihiku through the Charter of Understanding.
This is a great opportunity to take ownership of a newly formed function and to join a great team doing outstanding work for their community and the environment. A generous package will be on offer that includes above-average leave provision and relocation assistance.
