The opportunity - Te āheinga
We're excited to announce a newly created opportunity within our Finance and Planning team - the Finance Assistant. This entry-level role is a fantastic development pathway for someone currently working in finance or aspiring to become an accountant.
As a shared resource across the Finance team, the Finance Assistant will gain exposure to a wide range of core finance functions.
This includes:
- Financial accounting
- Rates processing
- Transactional finance
- Business partnering
This role is designed to provide foundational experience in a collaborative and supportive environment, offering a unique chance to build practical skills while contributing to meaningful work. It's ideal for someone who is eager to learn, grow, and take the first step toward a rewarding career in accounting and finance.
Key responsibilities - Ngā haepapa matua
- Provide day-to-day support across core finance functions including financial accounting and reporting, rates processing, transactional finance such as accounts receivable and payable, and business partnering activities
- Assist with reconciliations, data entry, reporting, and other administrative tasks
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the finance team
- Engage in learning and development opportunities to build capability and prepare for future growth
- Actively ensure that legislative requirements and Council policies and procedures are fulfilled, particularly in relation to all key relevant legislation
Essential skills and experiences - Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako
- Tertiary qualification in accounting or finance (or working towards one) preferred
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn
- Good communication and organisational skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment

You can expect to start in this permanent, full-time role with a salary of between $63,185 - $65,932.
