Environmental Technical Officer

At Environment Southland, we actively work towards enhancing the experience of living and working in a sustainable region.

Our vision is for a thriving Southland - environmentally, socially, economically, and culturally.

Environment Southland is a great place to work, offering a dynamic and diverse environment. We provide a range of opportunities and the chance to make a real difference to Southland's natural environment.

If you would like to be part of a team that is highly motivated and goal-driven then you may be the person we are looking for!

You will work closely with the other members of the environmental data team collecting information to ISO9001:2008 standards from many environmental aspects including air quality, bio-monitoring, groundwater and surface water hydrology from many stunning places.

You will:

  • have a tertiary qualification in a relevant field, an eye for detail, a love of the great outdoors, and enjoy dealing with a wide range of people;
  • be familiar with computers, data entry and quality control, and enjoy the challenges of applying new technology;
  • have the stamina (and a sense of humour) to be part of our successful team of technical officers.

This is a job where you can expect the unexpected - your "inside office days" will be interrupted by floods, droughts and even the odd outbreak of sunshine as you undertake routine and emergency monitoring.

The position requires someone who is a team player, has the ability to communicate with a variety of people (scientific and non-scientific audiences alike) and can work effectively in a dynamic and high-output environment.

Southland offers you:

  • wilderness at your back door;
  • affordable housing;
  • short commutes.

An initial offer of remuneration will be made within the range $59,940-$63,270 per annum.
