Environmental Health Officer
- Do you want to be part of a dynamic team?
- Be part of the team that is seen as a leading provider of environmental health services?
- Contribute to a greater good?
If so, we have an excellent opportunity for an Environmental Health Officer to work in our Public Health team.
Wellington City Council offers a committed and creative environment and takes pride and responsibility in delivering services with our customers at the heart of everything we do. The Public Health team is a regulatory unit of the Wellington City Council. We process applications for food and alcohol premises, register dogs and carry out inspections to ensure public health and safety. We also provide advice to customers on a wide range of regulatory matters and monitor compliance with legislation and bylaws. We pride ourselves on giving quality and timely advice to help our customers navigate their way through the regulatory processes.
The function of this role will be to work with food businesses in Wellington to ensure that the food they produce is safe and suitable for their customers. As such the main activity will be to undertake verifications of businesses operating under a template food control plan, so an understanding of the Food Act 2014 and Food Regulations 2015 is essential. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to carry out on site risk assessments and be able to work with our customers to achieve the desired results. Good communication skills are therefore key. As part of the team you will be given autonomy for the allocated work, therefore excellent planning and management of workflow skills are essential.
To be considered for this position you must hold a degree in Environmental Health Science or a Post Graduate Diploma in Environmental Health Science. A candidate nearing completion of either of these two qualifications would be considered. A current full and valid driver's licence is also essential for this role.
We put people at the heart of everything we do, we care for our people and offer some good professional development opportunities. We also have family leave provisions and a generously subsidised kid's school holiday programme. You will be entitled to five weeks annual leave after two years of continuous service with us.
