About this role:

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to join a fun and dynamic team? We are seeking a qualified Environmental Health Officer to join our Environmental Health Team. This is an opportunity to cover an employee going on parental leave until mid-July 2026. Do you want to make a real difference in the community and work on a wide range of environmental health aspects including food, alcohol licensing, and general service requests from customers to make sure they comply with legislation.

What I do?

  • Verification of food operations to ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations.
  • Follow up/ investigation and resolution of service requests and complaints from customers.
  • Reporting on alcohol licensing applications or renewals.
  • Provide advice and education to businesses and the public on compliance and best practices.
  • Educate customers on relevant legislation and council policies to protect public health.
  • Prepare reports, notices, and legal documentation where required.
  • Collaborate with internal teams such as Regulatory support , Consents, Monitoring and Building teams to achieve environmental health objectives.

What I bring?

  • Minimum two years experience as an Environmental Health Officer and registered in New Zealand.
  • The ability to verify national programs (NP) and template food control programs through Ministry of Primary Industries.
  • Great working relationships and building rapport with customers.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Skilled and experienced at providing guidance to customers in a concise and clear way.
  • Strong team player who works well with others and appreciates their input.
  • An understanding of, or the desire to learn about, te ao Maaori and tikanga.
  • Proficient computer skills.

Additional Information

Location: Ngaaruawaahia or Tuakau and on occasion you can work from the outer offices.

Hours of work: 40 hours per week fixed term although flexibility may be negotiated in terms of hours per week.
