The opportunity - Te āheinga

We're seeking an experienced Digital Portfolio Lead to join our Digital Enablement leadership team on a three-year fixed-term basis, covering an incumbent who is currently on secondment. In this role, you'll play a key part in shaping how we plan, govern, and deliver ICT projects and change across Council.

This is a hands-on leadership position, where you'll lead a team of Project Managers, Business Analysts, and Change specialists, while also contributing directly to the delivery of complex or high-priority initiatives.

We're looking for a leader who brings strength in both people leadership and delivery - someone who actively coaches, provides clarity, and fosters a team culture where performance and wellbeing can thrive together.

Key responsibilities - Ngā haepapa matua

  • Translate approved priorities into a coordinated programme of ICT projects that are clearly scoped, sequenced and resourced
  • Drive delivery performance across the portfolio, ensuring projects meet agreed timeframes, budgets, quality standards and intended outcomes
  • Provide leadership across the full project lifecycle, from initiation through to transition into business use
  • Apply consistent governance, planning, business case and reporting standards, enabling timely and informed decision-making
  • Lead financial and commercial management across delivery, including procurement and contract oversight
  • Lead and develop the team, setting expectations, strengthening capability and holding people to account constructively

Essential skills and experience - Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako

  • Proven experience delivering multiple ICT or business transformation initiatives in complex environments
  • Strong people leadership capability, including coaching, performance development and building positive team culture
  • Ability to balance oversight with hands-on delivery when required
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
  • Sound understanding of governance, project delivery practices, and commercial management

You can expect to start in this three-year fixed-term, full-time role with a salary of between $120,786 - $130,180.
