The opportunity - Te āheinga
As a Development Engineer in our Delivery and Enablement Group, you'll play a key role in supporting New Plymouth District's growth and development.
In this permanent, full-time role, you'll be responsible for ensuring that vested assets constructed by external parties are fit for purpose and meet Council's standards and requirements before they are accepted into Council ownership.
You'll work closely with developers, consultants, contractors and internal stakeholders to review designs, inspections and as-built documentation, ensuring quality infrastructure outcomes for our community.
This role offers a strong mix of technical assessment, relationship management and problem solving, with the opportunity to influence how development integrates with Council's long-term infrastructure objectives.

Key responsibilities - Ngā haepapa matua
- Assess and report upon the infrastructure asset aspects of resource consent applications and associated development contributions for both subdivision and land use developments and building consent applications including Project Information Memorandums
- Provide expert engineering advice in resource consent approval processes and expert evidence when required
- Provide quality assurance for all new infrastructure assets created by the development, including engineering plan approval, inspection of construction works and final acceptance of new assets
- Interface between asset managers and regulatory providers so that development of infrastructure aligns with Council's plans including Asset Management Plans and Annual Plan and Long Term Council Community Plan
- Actively ensure that legislative requirements and Council policies and procedures are fulfilled, particularly in relation to all key relevant legislation
Essential or preferable skills and experience - Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako
- Relevant engineering qualification
- Competence in engineering matters relating to the assessment of development and subdivision proposals
- Knowledge of the Resource Management Act and other legislation relating to land resources preferable
- Working knowledge of local authority infrastructure assets preferable

You can expect to start in this permanent, full-time role with a salary of between $95,908 - $103,366.
