Contracts Engineer
We're looking for an experienced and motivated Contracts Engineer to join our Transportation team and contribute to the strong delivery of transport programmes across our district.
Waipā is growing, and so is our transport network. This is an opportunity to play a key role in delivering roading maintenance and capital works, helping ensure our network remains safe, reliable and fit for the future.
If you're passionate about infrastructure, enjoy working in an operations environment, and like seeing tangible results in your community - this could be your next move.
About the role
As part of the Operations team, you will work collaboratively with the Operations Team Leader and contractors to ensure maintenance and renewal programmes are planned, approved and delivered in accordance with agreed levels of service, budgets, quality standards and health and safety requirements.
On any given day, you'll be:
- Managing and administering road maintenance and renewal contracts
- Overseeing the delivery of annual maintenance and renewal programmes
- Working closely with contractors to develop, review and approve work programmes
- Ensuring maintenance and renewal works are delivered on time, within budget and to quality standards
- Assessing and approving variations, claims and contract payments
- Managing monthly expenditure, ensuring accurate monthly forecasting and accrual reporting
- Providing technical advice and support to Council staff, elected members and stakeholders
- Monitoring contract performance and resolving issues constructively
This role combines project delivery, contract management and technical engineering expertise - so you'll need to be confident managing projects end-to-end and working both in the office and out on site.
About you
You'll be a proactive and capable engineer who enjoys managing contracts and contractors and building strong working relationships.
You'll bring:
- Experience in civil engineering, roading or infrastructure project delivery
- Contract management experience, including reporting and claims using the Asset and Work Management software suite (formerly known as RAMM).
- Strong understanding of road engineering design principles and standards
- Experience with procurement, tendering and contractor management
- Ability to manage multiple contract tasks and prioritise effectively
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with a range of stakeholders
- A practical, solutions-focused approach and attention to detail
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or related discipline
- Full, clean driver licence
- 5+ years' experience in a similar role
- Experience in local government or consultancy (a plus)
